Snowpocalypse 2011 Has Arrived! (UPDATED)
Look out your windows, Park Cities people! While it surely doesn’t rival last year’s epic snowfall and requisite power outages, there are still some issues over in Highland Park.
According to an e-mail news blast from Highland Park Crime Watch, power outages have been reported on the west side of Highland Park along Roland Avenue and in the 4200 block of Lomo Alto Drive.
I’m sure you’re aware by now, but Highland Park ISD schools are closed for the day, and classes have been canceled at the following private schools: Episcopal School of Dallas, the Hockaday School, Jesuit, St. Mark’s, and Ursuline Academy.
Classes at SMU have been canceled as well.
UPDATE FROM UP’S UNSTOPPABLE STEVE MACE: “U.P. has had two sand trucks out since 5 a.m. treating all the major intersections. Also, the mast arm on the traffic light pole on the southeast corner of Lovers and Armstrong has snapped. Presumably it gave way do to the stress of early morning wind gusts. It will impact east bound traffic only. Traffic Division personnel are clearing the intersection and placing temporary stop signs at that intersection.” (Photo at left courtesy of Steve Mace)
UPDATE FROM HP CRIME WATCH: “HP Town Hall is OPEN. HP Public Works crews continue to monitor street conditions. HPDPS officers have already diverted a driver from ascending Armstrong from Lakeside until it is sanded. Currently no power outages in HP.”
UPDATE FROM WHOLE FOODS: It’s about lunch time, and Whole Foods in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto Drive is open, says spokeswoman Karen Luckin. Mosey on over to enjoy some hot soup or chili, with $2 off salads.
If your power does go out, instead of dialing 911 (trust me, this happens) call Oncor at 888-313-4747. For updates on outages you can check their website here.
If you’re hanging close to home (and you should!) be sure to take a few pictures of your snow day and send them to editor@peoplenewspapers.com.
Thank you Steve Mace and the unnamed but very much appreciated city workers who are out there braving the weather!
agreed thank you
