Rise And Shine, Park Cities (01-21-11)
1.The annual fee for University Park’s alarm monitoring service has quadrupled from $12 to $48, according to the latest issue of The Arbor. The city’s official publication does note that this is the first increase in a decade.
2. Mark your calendar for the Park Cities Organists’ Showcase. At 6 p.m. Jan. 30, organists from eight Park Cities churches will get a chance to strut their stuff on the new Dobson organ at Highland Park United Methodist.
3. There’s still time for you to win a meal at Cafe Pacific. All you have to do is tell us what you think of Park Cities People. Click the “Win a Dinner for 2” tab at the top of this page.
I don’t have my Arbor anymore, but when I read it, I thought it said that increase was for the annual permit, not the monitoring service. I believe it is still $25 per month for monitoring service from the UP Police Dept. And it seems the Arbor said that if you DO have the monitoring service from UP, then you don’t have to have a permit. Perhaps Chief Adams or someone can confirm, but I just looked through my past 12 bills and only see the $25 per month fee for monitoring, and no $12 or $48 fee for a permit.
UPDad is right, the permit fee is what is increasing. The monitoring is fee is $25.00 per month, the same since we moved here in 2003. What is confusing to me is that the Arbor article states that the permit renewal fee is included in the monthly alarm monitoring fee. If that is the case, by my math, the monthly fee will rise to $28/month. Since we are almost 4 months into the new fiscal year, it seems strange that the fee hasn’t increased. I haven’t looked at the monthly bills for October-January to see if the fee has already been assessed separately. It would be nice to have the point in the ARBOR clarified by someone from City Staff.
