Allen Scores 53 Points in Enormous Win

Highland Park junior wing David Allen has been heating up in the scoring department lately. It turns out he was just getting warmed up.

Allen poured in a whopping 53 points, a school record, to help the Scots to a big 87-79 victory in triple overtime over McKinney on Friday night at Highlander Fieldhouse. The victory moved Highland Park into a first-place tie with McKinney in the District 10-4A standings.

Allen, whose previous career high was 27 points, poured in 33 of his 53 in regulation. Teammate Luke Turpin, another starter at wing, was battling the flu in Friday’s game. Allen also grabbed 11 rebounds.

The previous school record for points was set by Billy Allen. He scored 44 points in a 1978 game.

The Scots (14-7, 4-1) will host Rockwall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Inspiring basketball from the whole team. They never let the Lions get beyond 5 or 6 points, and continued to come back. David was on fire. He also was down several times with leg cramps but continued to play thru it. A wonderful game to watch.

Exciting and Great game. Hats off to David Allen. The rest of the team contributed. Although Luke Turpin did not start due to the flu, he did play and scored 9 points.

When is this game broadcast? Love to watch it on HPTV.

Luke has the flu? Hate to think of a kid with the flu out playing. Very contagious and not really a good health choice. They will all start dropping this week if so.
