Oliver Elected to Hall of Fame
Highland Park head coach Fred Oliver was inducted into the National High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame on Dec. 2 in Raleigh, N.C.
Oliver, who is about to begin his second season with the Scots, was nominated and selected by his colleagues.
During his 29-year coaching career, 26 of which have been as a head coach, Oliver has accumulated a record of 511-288. He was selected as the District 12-5A Coach of the Year eight times during his tenure in Lufkin. Oliver, who has also scouted for the Houston Astros, also coached at Plainview and Lubbock Monterey.
Way to go, Coach O!!
Quite an accomplishment – not a big list of coaches. I believe the induction will take place in 2011, with the announcement being made last month.
Looking forward to watching him coach The Scots to a great season this year!
he’ll be judged by “w”s and “l”s.
if there aren’t enough “w”s,
he’ll be gone, regardless of
how well he coaches or builds
character.
welcome to the crucible that
is small time, high pressure
high school athletics.
