After More Than a Year Under Wraps, the Village Theatre is Back in Business
So who’s ready for the Village Theatre to reopen this Friday Saturday?
I got a sneak preview (pun/groan) of the newly renovated building yesterday, and saw lots of old-school class and new-school technology beneath a fair amount of sawdust. Among the perks: Two full screens — one for date-caliber movies and one for family-friendly stuff, respectively; a pair of private suites where parties of up to 16 can eat, drink, and watch any film they choose; a standing bar/lounge; and patisserie fare alongside your more standard popcorn and soda.
In terms of decor, a subtle “under the sea” theme is a nod to the lobby’s original mural, which artists have recreated on canvas to run alongside the staircase, said Twomey Concepts president Brian Twomey. Twomey’s company, if you’re not familiar, has taken over the theater’s lease and is building the Marquee Club restaurant next door — but you’ll have to wait until March or so to visit the latter. It’s a separate outfit, Twomey tells me, and it’ll be headed up by executive chef Tre Wilcox. Yum.
In the meantime, you’ve got plans: Tron:Legacy in 3D, Megamind, and Morning Glory are the opening lineup. Little Fockers arrives next week.
Want more details? Pick up Friday’s issue of Park Cities People.
UPDATE: As of Wednesday afternoon, the opening date had been pushed back to Saturday. Tron: Legacy has the first show time, at 4:25 p.m. And (as noted in a comment below) you’ll need to buy tickets in person, at least for the time being.
UPDATE^2: Show times, they are a-changin’. Tron: Legacy is now slated for 10:15 a.m. Saturday. Highland Park Village’s management office will have the latest, at 214-443-9898.
woohoo
Ooh, Tron Legacy in 3D – we’ll go. Will the tickets be available online in advance? If so, through who?
Hi Kmom,
I just asked HP Village spokeswoman Hillary Artzt if tickets are available yet online (good question) and she says no — but that you’ll be able to buy them within a couple of weeks at hpvillagetheatre.com.
FYI, Artzt also sends word that the first Tron:Legacy showing is at 4:25 p.m. Saturday. Y’all have fun!
Why are you so late reporting this? Everything about this has been up for days…. I am surprised at the delay….

It’ll be old school, showing up without tickets bought already. I was at a party at Mi Cocina a few nights ago and I didn’t read the marquee and see this – so thank you!
So excited!
