D Magazine Gives HPMS Teacher a Whirl

Highland Park Middle School English teacher Yvonne Janik is featured in the December issue of D Magazine. Not for anything she does in the classroom; rather, for her status as the Texas record holder for roller-coaster rides: 923. I’m not sure how such a record can be verified — she’s certainly got me beat, but can we say for sure that the same is true of every Texan? Nonetheless, it’s an interesting read.

I had her my eighth grade year, she was just as obsessed with roller coasters then too! Glad to see much hasn’t changed.

Was it 923 times in a row or 923 different roller coasters? Just having ridden 923 times on any random roller coaster seems pretty low for a record.

I believe its 923 different roller coasters, all over the world.

My son had her for 8th grade English and she teaches with the same enthusiasm as she rides roller coasters. He had her first period when he was still half asleep – ’bout killed him. But he was awake by the end of the class.
