Super Creep Filming Children in University Park? Investigation in Progress.

I received an e-mail yesterday afternoon about a disturbing incident reported to police by a local resident on Amherst.

A neighbor mine at 3800/3900 block of Amherst yesterday reported a man to police whom she caught videotaping her children playing outside; then he returned later and presented her with an edited video that contained some “disturbing” images.  i do not know more details of what was indicated.  his description is:  “about 60 – 65, almost 6 feet tall, very slim, white hair, sometimes wears a baseball cap. He was in jogging clothes as if he was walking the neighborhood for a jog.”  the police reminded her to always watch your children even if they are playing in your front yard and lock your gates to the backyards if your children play unattended in the back.

So I checked in with Chief Gary Adams of the University Park Police Department. Here is his brief but rapid response.

This is being investigated at this time.

Hide your kids, hide your wife.

    Hide your husband too.

    Another week, another pervert-on-the-loose email.

“he returned later and presented her with an edited video that contained some ‘disturbing’ images.” Really?

Just what were the kids doing on the video that was so “disturbing”? Stepping in the man’s flower beds?

Or is he one of those pedophiles that preemptively turns over his edited work product to the parents of his intended victims?

I agree with Neal. A premature blog post which shouldn’t be released until UPPD confirms the facts.

Meh, I’m entertained by the freak out emails that get sent ’round about things like this. I see no reason to not publish it until it’s confirmed, no harm done. If she was giving names and publishing photo’s, well that might be different.

there’s a good possibility that this guy is just clueless about what is appropriate these days and what is not. got a new camera, walked down the block, saw some cute kids playing. went home and made a little film. proud of himself and shared with mom who became freaked-out. if the guy were 70-80, i’d totally understand this. 60-65 is a little too young to be so uninformed, if you ask me.

i think publishing this wasn’t necessarily bad in that it will educate others with new christmas cameras that people these days with kids do not appreciate you filming their kids. it’s not the 50’s or 60’s and unfortunately, there are a lot of creeps out there.

I wonder how many of the moms that send these emails around are just as willing to send their kids through airport security to have their private parts photographed or felt up by TSA agents.

I’ll join in @Neal’s thread hijacking – I read that there is a nice jolt of radiation with the new body scanners at the airport? There’s a part of my body that has been maxed out for a lifetime’s radiation dose, other than manditory scans for safey’s sake I’m to avoid further radiation. So I guess my other option is the “full body pat down” that includes a thorough patting down of “where the legs meet”. Ick. I guess I should feel lucky I don’t fly for a living, hmmmm?
