    Prediction: Both will fail.

    Fear is an easier sell.
NF, Dick Davis and the Former Mayor’s Club should be proud of their misleading and untruthful campaign.

The adults should have been able to have a lucid and logical discussion of the prop’s pros and cons.
It digressed into Sodom & Gomorrah scare-mongering.

I expect to see the ignorance and immaturity of people like NF(the world is flat because Dick Davis told me so) on these blogs.

The worst part about reading these blogs the past few days was seeing Merritt thrown under the bus by neighbors. The “Merritt, why don’t you pack up and move” crowd of supposed Park Cities natives never sees how ignorant and repugnant they sound. These are probably the same Sunday Christians that sit in church with her. The same people that rally around her when she is fighting for one of their causes. I sometimes cringe when I see some of her articles, pics or thread topics, but I like that she gets me out of my comfort zone. Complacency sets in and she shakes it off. Kudos to her for caring enough about this neighborhood to ask questions.

Won’t. Because I don’t jinx things like this.
And, grump, what a sweetie. You’re getting all nice and everything!

Couldn’t agree more with grump. I know it’s off-topic, but those comments to Merritt were such an indictment of smalltown narrow-mindedness. “Move to the Park Cities, where we love our neighbors (unless they disagree with us, are liberals or attend church somewhere other than PCBC)!” Definitely not our proudest moment as a community.

…and if I remember correctly from previous posts, Merritt goes to PCBC too. Irony!

    @grump and BusyGuy –

after re-reading the posts of the last few days, I read lots of bashing and name-calling directed at NF, Mayor Davis and PCBC, but not Merritt. With so many posts, I might have missed it but it seems that they were the primary target of the very behavior that you (and I) dislike.

Anecdotal from the heart of UP over the phone: She voted early Against; she thinks it will pass anyway. Her husband just voted today For; he thinks both will fail. Their 20-year old daughter forgot to vote on the propositions, she thinks they will fail. Her friend from SMU voted For; she thinks they’ll fail. Their neighbor voted Against both; she thinks they will pass.

There’s something in the water in U.P.

B, here are the 2 posts I am referring to:

ParkieMomAndTeacher @ October 29, 2010 at 7:36 pm Merritt, I’m not sure why anyone at Park Cities People would allow you on their blog, and you’ve written a lot of strange and disrespectful things, but one of the worst is, “A store selling alcohol and people drinking it have nothing to do with each other.”. If you really believe that, you have more problems that just bad attitude.

You and your paper are so totally in the tank for alcohol and the advertising money you’ll get that you’ve become irrational on top of unethically selling out your front page with false stories about the opposition, IMHO.

Your disdain for successful people in general, and hyper-liberal approach to the community’s successful leadership of decades, is beyond reproach.

If you hate the Park Cities and Parkies so much, why do you take money for working at the community paper they support?”

    and this one:

    Lifelong Parkie @ October 29, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Merritt is there some reason, you as a transplant to our wonderful city, are so incredibly disrespectful to our Mayor? Is it something he said or did?
If this is so aweful a place to live, move somewhere else. I thought for a while your columns were somehwat humorous, i don’t bother to read them anymore because they are repugnant to the people who built this community.

@Busyguy – I had missed those posts. They are unfortunate and unnecessary.

Likewise, I think the numerous ‘ugly’ posts directed at NF, Mayor Davis and PCBC were also unnecessary. I haven’t counted but I wonder how many there were – definitely more than 2.

NF & Dick reap what they sow. I never referenced PCBC. EVER. I have no beef with a church, just most of the people in it. The church is beautiful. The parishioners are lovely on Sunday.

@grump – I was not referring directly to any of your posts. I just thought it was interesting that you and Busyguy showed concerned that ugly posts were made toward Merritt but seemed to care less that the same was happening to others. As BusyGuy said, this was “not our proudest moment as a community” for the comments made toward Merritt as well as those that were made and continue to be made toward NF, Mayor Davis, Baptists and PCBC.

I agree with you – the nasty posts are unnecessary and regretable. But the same concern should apply to all – not just the persons you agree with.
