You Are SO Beast. (That’s a Good Thing)
So, on a different note. Have you noticed that using the word epic is so early 2010? If you have tweens or teens and you’re current on your lingo, you know that when something is great, it’s so beast. Example:
John is so funny, he’s a beast!
But if you want to really be up on age 12-18 conversational trends, you must know that if something is really super true, as in I’m not lyin’ to you- it’s legit. Example:
No really, that’s what she said about you. Legit.
And for the VERY latest, if something is unique or cool, it’s exotic. Example:
I want her shoes, they’re exotic.
Warning- this one can go seriously wrong if your 7 year old gets ahold of it. As in, “I’m going to be an exotic clown for Halloween.” Seriously, I overheard that at my house. Legit.
Perhaps that’s why my 7th-grader came home last night asking if the term “too legit to quit” had something to do with drugs? I just shook my head and said, “Early 1990 MC Hammer references are troubling enough…can’t deal with drug questions right now. Kthxbye.”
Merritt, the first example is wrong it is “John is so funny, he’s beast!” For some reason it is too hard to add an A to the sentence. Soooo, ummmm, yeah..get it right, gawh.
Epic fail
@me2- I think you’re right. YOU are SO beast. Legit.
Can someone explain the term “meme” as it is used today in relation to the internet – in a way that I can understand? My son rolls his eyes at me when I say I don’t get it.
@kmom – if you haven’t looked at Wikipedia, here is what it says about memes (in short form)
At its most basic, an Internet meme is simply the propagation of a digital file or hyperlink from one person to others using methods available through the Internet (for example, email, blogs, social networking sites, instant messaging, etc.). The content often consists of a saying or joke,[3] a rumor, an altered or original image, a complete website, a video clip or animation, or an offbeat news story, among many other possibilities. In simple terms, an Internet meme is an inside joke, that a large number of Internet users are in on.
I’m trying to work the term ‘meta’ into my everyday conversations and am having trouble with it.
Ha ha takes me back to my 7th grade year when people were ruckused or Mary Jane’s
To A.B. try “meta Message”. as in “the meta message is that you are grounded, it doesn’t matter what other parents are doing”
