Daryl “Moose” Johnston Discusses Concussions on Tuesday
Former Cowboy Daryl “Moose” Johnston will present “Rebound and Recovery Concussion Discussion” at the Center for Brain Health at the University of Texas at Dallas on Tuesday.
“With sports programs gearing up across the country, it’s important that parents, teachers, coaches and other adult supervisors understand concussions and how to handle them should a child or teen they know experience one,” said Johnston. “People immediately think of football when they think of concussions but other sports such as soccer and activities like cheerleading are potential environments for head injuries.”

I would like to comment on this subject and offer up my services to speak and/or be a part of any effort to help control or prevent this injury from the damages it leads to for players of all sports who suffer a concussion. I am 59 years old and grew up in that era of “Tough it out and get back in there”. I suffered a bad concussion playing football and Rugby and was diagnosed with a concussion but blew it off. I was told that I would most likely have issues 10 to 12 years out and sure enough in 1986 I started having seizures and I am now on diability effective in December of this year. I have had a severe car wreck and lost my employment as well as ending any chance of reentering the job force. I am ending 30 years in the healthcare industry as well as trying to regain control and gain the ability to drive a car. I am a great speaker and would be delighted to speak on this issue or be a part of any group looking into safety issues and/rules. I have my opinion about this and feel it starts in the lower grades and coaching efforts. Thank you for time and allowing me a chance to contribute.
Daryl, we need a new Sports Director at the PCYMCA, I nominate you, followed with a mayor of UP, you’ve done well for yourself, give these kids a gift… They need an athlete directing the sports department… Please help…
Wow I was looking my dad up, Skip schmulbach, and just now read what was said by him. I never knew how bad it hurt my dad when he lost everything. Seeing him hurt hurts me tremendously, and I would like to be apart of whatever my dad try’s to do. I would love to talk as well about these situations because watching my dad really made me hurt for him.
