Start Flossin’

I was about to enter the tollway off of Lovers when the ultra-modern architecture of this building caught my eye. Was it a home decor shop? A jewelry store? Nope. It’s a dentist office.

Before it was a hit song by rapper Mike Jones, flossing wasn’t exactly cool. But between Jones and the recent development of a chain of hip dentist offices called Floss, the reputation is quickly evolving. I mean really, how many dentists have a blog (updated daily), a “flossophy,” or a building that looks like something out of an IKEA catalog? If that’s not trendy enough for you, owner Dr. Clint Herzog sports a fro hawk.

Herzog rebranded his previous practice, “Herzog Dentistry” (snore), into Floss in April 2009, and the business has been growing ever since. The initial Quadrangle location has expanded to include Dallas offices on Lemmon and Lovers, plus ones in Houston and Rockwall. The most recent additions, Rockwall and Lovers, were added in the beginning of 2010. Are you flossin’ yet?

Well, I dont know how you have just now seen this shop… it’s been there for a while, and I’d guess I get at least one mailer a week from the guy. Must have a huge mailing budget – big glossy expensive looking cards with beautiful uber white teeth people on them.

I get junk mail from this place every week. I’m sticking with my old fuddy-duddy dentist.

“Ultra modern architecture?” Lady, it’s a box with an awning.

Given that there seems to be absolutely no good reason for this post, I’ll bet this business advertises in PCP. Keep the customer satisfied, right Ms. Amant?

We were recently in the market for a new dentist, and after a bad experience with an ‘established’ dentist in the area, I found Floss. They got us in, did a free Zoom whitening after the cleaning appointment, and we all left smiling. Yes, there’s a fresh, young vibe to the place, which is actually nice. More importantly, they do good work, which is really what counts to me.

let’s turn this blog into a name your favorite
    park cities dentist,
    active or retired.

my nominee: dr. john rumley. he was a true gentleman who did great work- i have a partial denture he made for me and he has been retired for probably a decade.

This used to be a liquor store, then it was the Geek Squad. Now it’s Floss. *yawn*

Glad to hear that he has at least one satisfied patient. He sure spends a lot on marketing.

@Kit: Excellent idea. I’ll nominate Dr. Steve LaRash in the old Preston Center Medical Building. No flash, no marketing. (Also, probably not as expensive as folks with high overhead.) Most importantly, he takes great care of your teeth and has a great staff. He never pushes treatments that aren’t necessary. He’s honest, caring, thoughtful, kind, and skilled. I”ll take those qualities over flash any day of the week. Check out Dr. LaRash.

Glad to see such a lively discourse on dentists. I’m new to the area, and this place caught my eye as a unique business concept. There really wasn’t anything sinister behind it. That being said, I always welcome reader comments and suggestions, so thanks for contributing. If you have a story idea you think Park Cities readers need to know about, email me at claire@peoplenewspapers.com

We love Dr Amy and the staff at Floss! Their prices are exactly what our dentist (who retired) used to charge!!!
