Scots Break in New Digs
The Highland Park Scots wasted no time taking advantage of the school’s new multi-purpose indoor facility on the first day of football practice on Monday.
After a morning practice with the kicking game, the entire team conducted its first full workout in the impressive venue, protecting players and coaches from dangerous triple-digit heat.
“Oh, man, it’s better than I dreamed,” Scots head coach Randy Allen said. “It’s just unbelievable how much safer it is and the difference it makes from being on that turf. If it’s 100 degrees outside, it’s 150 on that turf. You go in there and it’s 80 degrees.”
The Scots will continue workouts at 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Friday. Highland Park will have an intrasquad scrimmage at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
“They’re in great shape,” Allen said of his team. “They worked hard this summer and retained a lot, so it was a good day.
The football players said the AC wasn’t working, or is there even AC? All the doors were wide open this afternoon.
what a waste of resources. Aren’t football players supposed to be tough?
It’s hot in there . . . but better than being in the blazing sun, I guess. No AC, I think. Just air circulating. Can anyone confirm?
@football in texas. Why don’t you get out on that open stadium field with temperature heat indexes of 110 and a turf temp of 150 wearing an 8lb helmet on your head and full pads and run around for 90 minutes?
It’s a choice!! Not required! And, no, I’m way smarter than that!
I believe there is no A/C in the new facility, although I think it is heated.
If safety were a real concern the kids should all be practicing and playing on grass. Turf is a concussion and knee killer.
Scots rule! I’m ready for some Friday night action! Go Scots!
i think the hp football team got it better then the dallas cowboys a nice indoor ac place to practice football

I live in Wisconsin and we don’t have this for high school football, let alone D1 Big Ten colleges.

Kevin, you’re wrong as the Badgers have the McClain Center which is a full indoor football facility that is also used by Whitewater when they go deep in the playoffs. FYI, the McClain is directly next to Camp Randall.
