Kershaw Suspended by MLB
Former Scot Clayton Kershaw and his manager, Joe Torre, were both suspended by Major League Baseball on Wednesday for an incident during Tuesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.
Kershaw was slapped with a five-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Giants outfielder Aaron Rowand. Torre was suspended for one game. Kershaw and Torre both received undisclosed fines. Both were ejected from the game in the seventh inning at Dodger Stadium last night.
Kershaw is appealing the suspension.
I’m sure that Rowand deserved it.
Kershaw is a great kid with a great work ethic and has an experienced teacher in Joe Torre. He has been a little wild in his pitching so will be difficult for the league to make this stick.
Difficult for the league to make this stick? They suspend pitchers all the time. In each case, the pitcher contends that they didn’t intentionally throw at the batter. It’s a judgment call by MLB. Happens all the time….just happened with a Braves pitcher and Bobby Cox a couple days ago.
Clayton is a great kid. He was sticking up for his team. (Watch the video on Dodgers website) The fact that he got a standing ovation from the Dodger fans after he protected his team says it all. Its no big deal. Happens all the time.
Hey, the great Dodger pitcher Don Drysdale admitted that throwing at players is part of the game. I’m glad they now enforce the consequences, however.
The whole throwing at the batter thing…very mature. At what age do men actually grow up?
This is a non-story. This happens all the time.
And Logan – that’s totally irrelevant. Clayton didn’t create the problem. Tim Lincecum drilled Matt Kemp earlier in the game, and I’m sure Torre instructed Clayton to drill Rowand in retribution. This is part of the game.
Yeah, i know it’s part of the game…that’s my point. It is a really silly, immature part of the game. Boo hoo, you hit me, now i’m going to hit you. Grow up.
