It takes __ minutes for a 35-year-old man carrying a 20-pound bag to walk from Highland Park Middle School to Mockingbird Station in the late-afternoon sun.
(Answer based on my personal experience yesterday afternoon will be posted shortly.)
20 minutes of actual walking plus an additional 25 to stop, curse heat, wipe feverish/sweaty brow and to flip off teenage drivers honking at laughable notion of actual pedestrian within Bubble confines, so 45 minutes total.
Is this one of those brain teasers, where it depends on what was in the bag? Like if it was 20 pounds of ice, then by the time you got to Mockingbird Station, it would be just the weight of the bag.
When I left the house yesterday morning, I forgot we had simultaneous meetings of the UP City Council and the HPISD Board of Trustees. So I took the train to work.
When I realized we had two meetings to cover, I had Joanna drop me off at HPMS on her way to City Hall. I figured school district spokeswoman Helen Williams would be more than willing to give me a ride to Mockingbird Station once the trustees went into executive session.
I was right; Helen was willing. Unfortunately, for the first time in my experience covering trustee meetings, Helen had to stick around for the executive session. So that meant I was hoofing it.
Also, the Mustang Express shuttle, the red buses, are free and run every 20 minutes starting in front of the Cox building at SMU. You could have hopped on one of those and been taken right to Mockingbird Station, or really anywhere along Greenville/Village etc.
Depends if you made the mandatory detour past the SMU swimming pool sun decks. You know, umm, just because.

It took me about 25 minutes, and here’s why:

The #21 bus goes down Hillcrest and across Mockingbird to Mockingbird Station. Sadly, no one at the board meeting would have known to tell you that.
