Wondering how the early voting thing is going for HP and UP? So far, 959 votes have been recorded, that’s 622 in the University Park race and 337 in Highland Park. Something tells me those numbers are about to sky rocket.
Heads up, UP residents! There’s another issue brewing that may soon face your newly elected City Council, so vote wisely.
Over the strong objection of its neighbors, HPPC has decided to proceed with a request to rezone the south side of the 3900 block of University and the south side of the 3900 block of McFarlin. Why? They want to bulldoze homes to build a surface parking lot for their members, most of whom don’t live in the neighborhood.
Even the senior minister, Ron Scates, admitted to the neighbors in two public meetings: “I wouldn’t want a parking lot in front of my home.” So it’s ok to degrade our streets and neighborhoods?
Come on, UP neighbors. Aren’t you tired of having homes demolished for more parking lots and commercial development? Let’s let our new Council know that University Park is for homes and families…not parking lots. Check out our blog at nohppcparkinglot.wordpress.com
Just unbelievable, and I say this as a HPPC member. If you drive down University and see the yard signs, it’s clear the neighbors in the immediate vicinity of the church don’t want the lot. I sympathize with older folks who need convenient parking, but this isn’t the way to do it.
Could they have a shuttle service from another location like HPHS or HPMS (once construction is complete) to HPPC, like PCBC does from Preston Center on Sunday mornings?
