Coyote on the Run in University Park
Steve Mace has confirmed the coyote story floating around town. It’s true.
Residents did report seeing a coyote in that area [Golf at McFarlin] this morning. A UP police officer was called to the location at 7:34 a.m. Soon after arriving, he saw a coyote disappear into the golf course grounds.
Coyotes frequent the creek area (Turtle Creek) that runs through the Dallas Country Club. On average, police are called a few times a year for such sightings.
wow.
We’ve also seen a red fox … they’re beautiful
Wow, I knew there were cougars on the loose, but coyotes too?
I knew the PC was full of cougars, but I didn’t know about the coyotes.
We’ve seen that red fox too on Golf, between Shenandoah and Potomac!!!!
Ummm…why would you call the police if you see a coyote? Are they against the law around here? sheesh
@Chanteuse
I was one of the callers. Calling the police help line is the quickest way to contact animal control. As far as being illegal, I am sure they are as free as the owl or the occasional red tailed hawk to come and go as they please. But unlike the owl and the red tail they are more likely to catch and kill small pets. There is also the danger of rabies. This one was the size of a large spaniel and didn’t appear to be a threat to our toddlericious citizens but you never know.
Seen a red fox twice, at sunrise, near the SMU tennis courts on SMU Blvd. No big deal. Looked like it was just making its daily rounds. I would be worried if I were a squirrel or a rat. Human, not so much.
I saw a coyote a few weeks ago at dusk. He ran south across Lovers just east of Preston. Almost couldn’t believe my eyes.
our neighbor’s cat was attacked and eaten,the police called,saw the coyote,etc…golf and rosedale,early dec,2010
Our cat Sam was killed the night of Dec. 1 –nothing much left. Neighbors, men, found him and said looked like coyotes. He was a farm cat and very smart and big. These animals –whatever they are– are very hungry. My orthodontist told me yesterday that he and his large dog were flanked by two coyotes near Preston Center two weeks ago. The coyotes continued to stalk them. These animals ARE in the Park Cities. Take care. I would not have believed it if not for being so apparent in our own situation.
Yes. Coyotes are now in Park Cities, and venturing deeper into highland Park…They have been living in the DCC golf course woods and Turtle Creek area and have become extremely more aggressive as they are hungry with limited resources. They are branching out and have been seen roaming down Armstrong, Beverly, Lomo Alto, Fairfax and Edmondson. Also on the East Side off DCC such streets as University and Golf St. a cat has been eaten recently. Take care of your animals and report to police AND the humane services, They can set traps and relocate the animals to more remote areas outside the city.
,
Also Parents, please warn your children, teens coming in late from dates, parties, whatever as these are the time the dogs are coming out and being seen. According to a current encounter 2 weeks ago, these animals may be as bold as to try to attack humans. SEE PREVIOUS POST
In the Spring of this year my son and I were headed to HP Village to go to Starbucks at 6:00am and we saw two coyotes trotting down Armstrong at Lorraine Ave. We followed them a few blocks and we pointed them out to a man throwing newspapers. We were as stunned as he was to see coyotes in HP. We have looked for them many times since but that was the only time we have spotted them.
My daughter’s beloved cat was killed by a coyote on McFarlin on September 15, 2011. The day after, early runners reported seeing a coyote on McFarlin again. Is there nothing that can be done about them? This is terrible!
