Woah nelly! Let me explain . . this was 1986. Permed hair and tall bangs were in. I was wearing guess jeans with Reebok hi-tops, a Zeta crest sweatshirt with a Polo underneath (note the popped collar). The policeman in the background, who was riding the horse, pulled me over because my car had an expired registration sticker. He wrapped the reigns around my side mirror. I didn’t get a ticket but the incident lives on in photography.

Typical, the hottie didn’t get a ticket and she even got her picture taken with the cop’s ride.

So you got pulled over in your car by a cop on a horse. That is just Awesome. It looks like there is possibly another cop in the background walking up to the building. Did you swing back around to the station to take the pic? Was it a duo of horseback cops on patrol?

It was at the beginning of the semester and many of us were at Colloqium (San Marcos) books getting our supplies. I was pulled over in front and several of my sorority sisters saw the whole thing and one of them, who always had her camera with her, took this photo after cajolling the police officer (in the background, looking like he probably shouldn’t have let this happen) to let me pose with the horse. I hadn’t seen it til she posted it on my FB page last year.

    Kersten,
Had no idea you went to SWT. I liked you before but now I really like you. Where was that house in the background? Did it back up to the river? Kind of across from the fine arts building? Anyway, My wife and I both went to SWT. That school had the prettiest women. I just didn’t think there were many of us in the park cities. Actually, I thought if people found out they would ask us to move.

Awww. Thanks @really. I went SWT for two really fun years then transferred to Saint Louis University and graduated from there. There are a few former Bobcats in the Bub . . . my question to you and other ‘cats: Would you send your kids there?

PS – really. You got it. That house did indeed back up to the river across from the iconic fine arts building. I remember having a class there then having to schlep uphill to Old Main. Hungover.

I wouldn’t mind if my kids went there. Once the drinking age went to 21, the partying slowed down (a little bit). They have raised admission requirements to slow growth, but they still have 30,000. It is a pretty campus and it is a small town considering how big the campus is. I enjoyed it. After HP, I do not think my kids would have any academic issues. They would be more than prepared. After Celebration 8 parties, they would be prepared for the drinking. You went from a bobcat to a billiken, is that right.

Kersten, I didn’t know you went to SWT. I was there during the Jim Wacker era – Go Bobcats!!. Oh and then there was Animal House, Struts, Green Parrot, Sterry Hall. Don’t know if I’d send my kids there today since I haven’t been back in sooooo long. Beautiful campus back then.

I was there during the Wacker era, too – so much fun! That was also a time when the university was on an upward trajectory because it had quite a bit of state support – the president of the university was good friends with Governor White and Lady Bird Johnson was actively involved in fundraising for the school.

Loved my times there but would prefer that my children went to a school with a better academic reputation and a higher profile, outside of Texas few people have even heard of SWT. And even in Dallas there isn’t much of a network of SWT grads.

@really – Yes, I became a Billiken, an odd little creature few people are familiar with. SLU is an excellent school – undergrad, graduate, medical, law and aviation are all exceptional. The only real downside to SLU is that there’s no football team – which makes it a deal breaker for my football-crazed kids. SWT or Texas State as it’s now called, isn’t on our radar screen either.
