BREAKING: Apartment Fire on McFarlin Near Hillcrest
Steve Mace sends word of an apartment fire in progress in the 3400 block of McFarlin Boulevard. Developing.
UPDATE: The 2-alarm fire was in a multi-family building in the 3400 block of McFarlin Boulevard. University Park Police and fire responded to a call from someone that noticed some smoke in the area.
Fire Marshal Mike Nolen said that it was the second 2-alarm fire in the past 24 hours that likely started in the chimney. The official cause of the fire is still undetermined.
“The metal flue is surrounded by 2-by-4s, and that’s what caught fire,” Nolen said. “We’re not sure if it was an electrical short,” Nolen said, or if it was a fire in the chimney.
“The resident did have a small fire in the fire place,” he added, but that may or may not have been the cause of the fire.
I live down the street from the fire station. I would watch sometimes as they would back into the station and then almost immediately depart a on another emergency.
I spoke with one of the fire fighters on Monday; he said that they actually had three (3) 2 alarm fires over the past 4 days.
Thank you to all of our Highland Park and University Park fire fighters for a job well done.
